Thermal imaging might be the fastest moving technology in marine electronics Marine electronics and navigation guru, Errol Cain has supervised the installation of marine electronic systems into thousands of luxury cruisers in his 22 years experience. This issue Errol will discuss the new Thermal imaging devices from Raymarine and OceanView. It was only a few months ago that I wrote about the latest in thermal imaging technology with on screen control from both Raymarine (E wide touch screen) and OceanView Apollo II Xi (Furuno NN3D). In quite a short period there has been some interesting developments. There are two in particular that I would like to draw attention to with both of these leading edge companies. Raymarine During the Sydney International Boat Show earlier this month, Raymarine launched to the world the TH24 and TH32 hand held thermal imaging device. The TH24 and TH32 are the smallest, yet one of the most feature packed hand held thermal imaging devices. Some of the features include 2 x zoom, 5 colour palettes, ultra compact design, long life Li-ion battery and IP-67 water proof rated. Safety at night in now affordable to the boater travelling in a dinghy from boat to boat, or the centre console night fishing enthusiast. Starting from a low AUD$ 2195.00 inc GST, safety has never been more affordable. Please click below for Raymarine TH24 and TH32 Handheld Thermal Night Vision Cameras product preview. OceanView OceanView has brought video stabilisation to their entry level Apollo II range of cameras. Video stabilisation has traditionally only been available on cameras approaching the AUD$100,000 and above mark. The great thing about this stabilisation addition is that it can be added to any existing OceanView Apollo II camera. This is a retro fitable device. Many people can become queasy at sea while watching rocking and rolling video on a screen, not so now with the video stabilised OceanView Apollo II.
