Riviera’s maintenance department celebrates an incident free workplace

Riviera has congratulated its maintenance department on achieving an incident free workplace for nine consecutive years.

Maintenance Manager Darren Miller and his team were recently awarded certificates in appreciation of this outstanding achievement.

Darren said it was a tremendous achievement considering the high risk work carried out by the maintenance department.

“They do all the maintenance and servicing throughout the site, so they are using cutting and grinding equipment, working at heights and working with electricity,” he said.

“For every job that has a risk associated with it we do a risk assessment or job safety analysis before we start the job and that highlights what safety precautions we have to take.

“The team completes a standard operating procedure and training to use the equipment safely.

“They all understand the danger of the equipment they use so they treat it with respect and always look out for each other.”

Riviera’s general counsel Cherriee Ludemann said the maintenance team performed some of the most dangerous and difficult work on site.

“Despite the fact the team has had some changes over the years, there are only four long-time employees still serving on the team, which means they have had to share their knowledge and experience and they always follow procedure and set up their task safely prior to commencing the task and work together as a team,” Cherriee said.

“Safety is just part of the great attitude the team displays to the work they perform and I would like to congratulate them on this fantastic achievement.”

Darren said he was proud of the team’s achievement.

“I feel I have achieved what I have set out to achieve as maintenance manager but we will try to maintain this record and look forward to celebrating 10 years.”

The maintenance team were treated to a lunch at Riviera’s R Restaurant where CEO John Anderson and chief operating officer Paul Lyons presented them with their certificates of achievement.
