Riviera’s boat builders roll up their sleeves for a good cause

Riviera’s boat builders downed their tools and rolled up their sleeves to help save 171 lives by donating blood to the Red Cross Blood Service.

Riviera’s Club Red co-ordinator Tony Schmid congratulated all staff for a fantastic effort and commended the team in Fit Out One, Shed 4 (there are 14 sheds in total on the 26 hectare Riviera site) for their outstanding contribution with the highest number of staff donating.

“It was a tremendous effort by Shed 4 boat builders with 53 per cent of staff from this area donating blood,” Tony said.

Shed 4 manager Matthew Thacker said Shed 4 was motivated not only to donate blood but to win the competition.

“This is the first time Shed 4 has won any onsite competitions so it was a great boost to the team,” he said.

“The majority of Shed 4 donors were first-time donors and while some needed their arms twisted a little, once finished they were all pleased they had made the effort.”

Tony said Riviera had been actively involved in the Bloodislow Cup challenge for almost six years.

“Our most recent blood drive puts us in a good position to win the Bloodislow Cup for the fifth consecutive year.”
