Riviera welcomes anglers to 2009 competition

Riviera is gearing up for the 2009 game fishing season, partnering in two major tournaments between January and March.

The company’s “home tournament”, the Riviera Light Tackle Masters, begins the year with a three-day tournament off the Queensland Gold Coast in mid January. Fish numbers off the coast combined with early registrations indicate a very exciting tournament.

The largest game fishing tournament in the Southern Hemisphere - the New South Wales Game Fishing Association’s annual Riviera Interclub Tournament – runs over two weekends from late February.

RIVIERA LIGHT TACKLE MASTERS
The Riviera Light Tackle Masters game fishing tournament off the Gold Coast in January is already shaping to be bigger and better than the successful 2008 event.

Again, the Masters will run over three full days of fishing, beginning on Friday, January 16. A flotilla of more than 50 boats and 150 anglers, with many ladies and juniors, is expected to challenge for prizes valued at more than $40,000.

The event, hosted by the Gold Coast Game Fish Club from Marina Quays at Hope Harbour, will begin with registration in the evening of Thursday January 15, followed by three action-filled days of fishing and culminating with the Presentation dinner on Sunday evening, January 18.

Fishing on Friday and Saturday, January 16 and 17 is from 7am to 4pm and on Sunday from 7am to 2pm.

Entry fees (including GST) for the 2009 tournament are:
Seniors $210.00
Juniors $75.00
Crew $140.00

Entries close at 5pm on January 10, 2008.

RIVIERA N.S.W. INTERCLUB TOURNAMENT

The 2009 Riviera NSW Interclub Tournament will be held at the mid-north-coast resort area of Port Stephens over two weekends beginning on Saturday, February 21.

The 2008 tournament attracted more than 1,000 anglers aboard 206 boats over the two weekends. Teams battled heavy weather that saw the iconic tournament reduced to two days of fishing.

Riviera has completed an exciting and very busy 12 months, releasing a number of new models that have attracted strong interest from the game fishing markets around the world, including the new 43 Offshore Express with Volvo Penta IPS propulsion.

The President of the NSW Game Fishing Association, Otto Volz, expects that NSW clubs will again produce a strong field of teams. Each club is entitled to enter any number of teams of five boats each. Interstate visitors are also welcome to compete in a number of categories.

Stephen Milne said: “A great many Riviera owners participate in the Interclub every year and this is one of the ways in which we support our Riviera owners. We are working closely with the Association to ensure that this is the most exciting and enjoyable tournament for all anglers.

“We will also have a competition within the tournament for Riviera owners,” said Mr Milne. “We will give a trophy for the most tag-and-release points by a Riviera owner throughout the tournament.”

Fishing on Saturday, February 21 and Sunday, February 22 and Saturday, February 28 is from 7am to 4pm. The final day, Sunday, March 1 fishing ends at 3pm.

Entry fees (including GST) for the 2009 tournament are:
Seniors $210.00
Juniors $75.00
Crew $140.00

For entry forms, please contact your game fish club or go to the Association website.
