Safety Sizzles at Riviera

A monthly safety competition was recently implemented to recognise staff efforts in the area of workplace health and safety with the winning factory being treated to a staff sausage sizzle to commend them on their efforts.  Riviera has 26 factories onsite all vying for the monthly prize.

Workplace Health and Safety manager Cherriee Ludemann said Riviera continually strived to highlight the importance of safety in the workplace.

“We implemented a competition to encourage our staff and onsite contractors to put forward ideas to improve safety within their work areas and to work with management to implement those ideas,” she said.

“Given that our staff are working in those areas and performing those tasks every day, their input is crucial to improving safety and creating a culture where safety is part of what we do everyday.”

She said efforts to improve Riviera’s work environments should always be recognised, as should great team work.

“Great team work is also an essential ingredient in improving safety,” she said.

“The reward is actually that all staff get to work in an environment where safety is a priority, ideas are implemented to improve the work place and staff look out for each other – it goes back to our culture of being part of the ‘Riviera family’ and our aim to be a world leader in the marine industry, not just for our boats but also for our production facility.”

The timber factory continuously improve their work environment and maintain a tidy and safe work area.

The factory is well organised, clearly marked and new initiatives are regularly implemented; for instance safety barricades on the mezzanine, covers on leads on the floor, anti-fatigue mats and regular cleaning throughout the day.

Riviera’s monthly Safety Competition will be awarded each month to the team which demonstrates the highest standard of workplace health and safety and who fulfils the competition criteria, which includes incidents reported and how they have been actioned, ideas put forward to improve safety in the workplace, items actioned by the team to improve safety in the workplace, and factory safety audits.
