Riviera owners enjoy the passage to Canaipa As the tide went out at Canaipa Point, the Riviera family found themselves battling through the muddy sand to reach their tenders, it was a good laugh and one of the many highlights during the three day trip. A floating pontoon was created to help people back to the boats but as people tried out their balancing skills, some fell in the mud while others sank, but it was all part of the fun. A fleet of 23 Rivieras and a total of 68 people, including children, met at Canaipa Point on July 9 for R Marine Queensland’s annual Canaipa Passage experience. The voyage began on a fine Friday morning with the Riviera fleet ranging from 33 to 56 foot flybridges and 36 to 58 foot sport yachts, cruising the protected waterways of the Broadwater and Moreton Bay Marine Park on their way to the picturesque Canaipa Passage, a seven nautical mile waterway between North Stradbroke Island and Russell Island. R Marine Queensland dealer principal Randall Jones said the 30 nautical mile round journey from the Sovereign Islands on the Gold Coast north to Canaipa Passage gave Riviera owners the chance to meet other owners and learn tips on anchoring and tendering. “This is the third time we have travelled to Canaipa Passage. It is a nice, sheltered anchorage and we have a lot of fun. Some of the highlights this year included bush walking, barbecue lunch on the beach, treasure hunt, running races for the children with marine prizes,” Randall said.” Riviera owners Greg and Donna Barnett along with their three sons Hayden, Travis and Connor on board Galleon, a 35 Flybridge were already anchored at Canaipa Point when R Marine Queensland arrived. “We go to Canaipa Point about five or six times a year and that weekend we were faced with two really windy days. It’s sheltered with good holding for anchoring so there is always peace of mind knowing you will have a decent night’s sleep,” Greg said. “We enjoy getting afloat with the family and getting away from business and work. I have always loved boating so it’s a way to get away and forget about work for a while. “We had a great time with R Marine Queensland, we met a lot of people and the kids really enjoyed all the activities, especially getting out in the dingy.” After three days of sunshine, rain and wind, the three day Canaipa Passage experience concluded on July 11. R Marine Queensland’s next experience to Great Sandy Strait is from September 24 to 29 and Riviera owners are encouraged to contact R Marine Queensland for further information.
