Riviera owner inspires Sandringham Yacht Club members

Adventurer and Riviera owner Ian Reynolds shared anecdotes from his inspirational voyages with more than 65 people during his guest speech at the Sandringham Yacht Club in February.

The 81-year-old shared adventures from his 842 nautical mile voyage from the Gold Coast to Lord Howe Island, described the challenge of circumnavigating 9,000 miles around Australia, and told tales from his most recent journey to Papua New Guinea, a 1380 nautical mile passage.

R Marine Jacksons dealer principal, Stuart Jackson, said Mr Reynolds was a fantastic guest speaker and had the audience awe-inspired with his adventures.

“The night started off with the Lord Howe documenary, followed by a brief introduction of Ian’s other exploits including his Member of the Order of Australia award, business attributes and philosophy and then he went into a slide presentation of his voyages,” Stuart said.

“I believe this was a first for Ian in doing a presentation of his cruises to an audience of boat owners.  Ian is the commensurate ambassador for Riviera and proudly spoke of his boat and our brand.”

Mr Reynolds has owned five Rivieras, each named ‘Investigator’ after the boat explorer Matthew Flinders used to circumnavigate Australia in 1804.  Mr Reynolds’ most recent Riviera is a 56 Enclosed Flybridge named ‘Investigator V’ in which he cruised to Papua New Guinea for the 2nd annual Louisiades Rally in late 2009.

Mr Reynolds said he undertook these voyages because they offered a challenge.

“I am convinced that continuing goals and challenges keep people alert both mentally and physically and probably go a long way to prolonging life,” he said.

Mr Reynolds was presented with a bottle of wine and Sandringham Yacht Club wine glasses in appreciation of his efforts.
