Sandringham, Victoria: Multiple Riviera owner, Barry Cuneo was pleased to bag his first Snapper on board his new 53 Enclosed Flybridge at the Sandringham Yacht Club's Recreational Boating and Fishing Competition held on October 27.
For the first time in the history of the fishing competition, Victorian Riviera owners were invited to participate in the annual tournament, which is sponsored by Riviera dealer, R Marine Jacksons.
Barry and his crew, which consisted of his son Tom and two friends George Tzilantonis and Andrew Gorman, set out at midnight and fished through the night in a bid to land a big one, but unfortunately their catch was no match for the winning 6.66kg Snapper caught by Sandringham Yacht Club member Michael Gulino.
After taking delivery of his new 53 at Easter, Barry was keen to test the IPS engines and enter his first fishing tournament.
He said it was a fantastic event for the whole family.
"The great thing about the tournament was seeing a large number of junior anglers taking home prizes," Barry said.
"I am not a member of the Sandringham Yacht Club so it was great to be invited to compete in this event.
"The Clubhouse was packed after weigh in at 11am and we enjoyed a lovely meal of fresh fish cooked by the Club's Executive Chef, Kol Gemmell, which was absolutely brilliant and I look forward to participating again next year."
This year the Sandringham Yacht Club's Recreational Boating and Fishing Competition attracted 56 boats and almost 190 people attended the barbecue lunch held at the Club after weigh in.
Stephen Porter from R Marine Jacksons said the event was very well organised and provided a great opportunity for Riviera owners to throw a rod out for a fun day of fishing.
"It was great to see Barry enjoying himself with family and friends on board his sparkling new 53 and we hope to encourage more Riviera owners to participate in next year's tournament," Stephen said.
