The race for night vision integration is on Marine electronics and navigation guru, Errol Cain has supervised the installation of marine electronic systems into thousands of luxury cruisers in his 22 years experience. This issue Errol will discuss the race for night vision integration. Following the successful recent launch of OceanView/Furuno’s night vision camera is Raymarine’s new T Series range of cameras. Just as OceanView’s Apollo II night vision camera can be controlled by the Furuno Navnet 3D system, Raymarine’s T series cameras can be controlled via E wide series, G series or from a standard joystick control. Garmin is to follow suit (as seen at an overseas marine equipment trade show in November) with its night vision camera controlled from the Garmin touch screen multi-function displays. No date has been set for the release of the Garmin camera but it can’t be too far away as it has been seen at recent trade shows. Simrad is the only one out of the four major leisure electronics manufacturers without a fully integrated night vision camera but they have just released their NSS touch screen displays so I'm sure they are working very hard on releasing a night vision camera to match. Raymarine who were purchased by FLIR last year, have integrated the FLIR T series night vision camera technology into the new E wide series and G series multi-function display systems. The camera is now fully controlled from the navigation display negating the need for a separate controller. When dash space is tight, this is a major benefit. Just like the OceanView cameras, the Raymarine T series comes in various specifications including a thermal only, dual thermal/low light and of course both are available in high definition. R Electronics will have both the OceanView Apollo II night vision camera controlled by the Furuno Navnet 3D and the Raymarine T series night vision camera controlled by the E wide series multi-function display operating at the upcoming Sanctuary Cove boat show, which begins on May 19. R Electronics will be performing demonstrations of these exciting new cameras at Sanctuary Cove and people will have the chance to test these plus a range of fantastic new safety equipment. R Electronics will be located at Riviera display, Marina Arm F. R Electronics is the Australian distributor for HRO Desalination, Lumitec LED Lighting and OceanView Thermal Imaging Cameras.
