Rivera Owners Learn The Ropes At R Marine Jacksons Ladies Skipper’s Day

Fifteen Riviera owners learnt the ropes and gained valuable boating knowledge at R Marine Jacksons Ladies Skipper’s Day held this month.

The event was a huge success for the female participants who learnt valuable insights into boating and the skills required for successful navigation, berthing and anchoring.  Topics covered on the day included nautical terminology, rope work, re-fueling procedures, driving techniques in shaft and IPS boats, berthing methods, anchoring demonstrations, engine room familiarity, chart reading, radar and navigation.

R Marine Jacksons dealer principal Stuart Jackson said they learnt valuable skills from experienced instructor, Doug King who is a Port Phillip Bay sea pilot, former water police and a spokesman/instructor for Marine Safety Victoria.

“The event was a two day Marine Safety Victoria basic skippers course tailored for our requirements and condensed into one day,” Stuart said.

“For demonstration purposes, we drove a shaft driven Riviera 41 and a new Riviera 3600 Sport Yacht with IPS.  All the ladies were given the chance to drive each of the boats themselves and were shown how each boat manoeuvres.

“It was an extremely successful day, the ladies had a great day and a lot of fun.  We have a similar day planned for the men and have also organised a presentation on Basic Diesel Engine Maintenance on October 13.”
