Roche Harbor Rendevous on par with Riviera owners

Beautiful sunny days and crisp clear nights provided perfect weather conditions for the annual Riviera Roche Harbor Rendevous, held in May.

A fleet of 34 Rivieras ranging from 33 to 58 feet and about 100 people travelled from various locations including Canada and western Washington for the not-to-be-missed boating event.

The three day event is in its 15th year and offers Riviera owners the chance to relax and socialise with other Riviera enthusiasts in the tranquil and picturesque Roche Harbor, a sheltered harbour on the northwest side of San Juan Island, which sits on the Canadian and American border.

Rob Scott from Riviera’s west coast dealership, United States said it was an ideal location for the annual Riviera experience.

“It’s a central meeting place for the Canadians and Americans and the area is absolutely beautiful. The resort caters to our needs by providing tents, marina berths and barbecues – they help us host the event,” Rob said.

“The Canadian Gulf Islands start about 10 miles away and it is just an unbelievable inner water way system, the cruising is just phenomenal.”

The first day began on Friday with a golf tournament and then on day two they competed in a game of disc golf, which is a game of golf using varying size Frisbees. The aim of the game is for players to throw the Frisbees at a target or in a basket. Later that day Riviera owners and their guests enjoyed a tender treasure hunt where teams were given co-ordinates to locate square floats anchored to the bottom of the harbour with a pole and Riviera flag. In the box was a number which entered them into the draw to win a prize at dinner that evening.

“On the Saturday night we had dinner on the dock where we barbecued baby back ribs which we smoked and served with our special custom made ‘loose tooth’ barbecue sauce,” he said.

“This year we made all our guests nice sweat shirts with the Riviera logo and a boat on it.

“I often hear people comment on the camaraderie of these events, the new friendships and cruising relationships formed and it is also a great opportunity for the dealer and sales staff to keep in contact with our customers – it creates a real family of Riviera enthusiasts.

“We also supply all our guests with a book listing all the Riviera boat names and owner details so that they can refer to it if they see another Riviera – they may find it is someone they have met on one of our experiences.”

This event was hosted by Emerald Pacific Yachts and Van Isle Marina.

The next event is the 2010 Riviera Fishing Tournament held in the Canadian fishing town Ucluelet from August 3 to 8. This is the first time Emerald Pacific Yachts and Van Isle Marina has exclusive reservations for this event. Entry costs $650 per boat, which allows for four people, additional people are an extra $60 per person. There will be daily cast prizes for the biggest salmon and prizes at the Banquet.

RSVP by June 30 to Rob Scott 206-587-0660 rscott@epyachts.com or Tracy Coghlin 250-656-1138, tcoghlin@vanislemarina.com.
